Wanna Play? Challenge #5: Autumn/Fall

Create an autumn/fall themed card that either uses a fall color combination (such as reds, yellows, oranges, browns, etc.) OR that features a fall stamp. Please email me or snail mail me your entries by November 7th.

Wanna Play? #4 Cards

This is my "anything" card. I used Nursery Necessities, the large Star Punch, and the Nursery Letters wheel. I used So Saffron, Baja Blue, and Old Olive to create a sophisticated looking baby card without pastels! Just a tip...I didn't have the jumbo cartridge, so I used my So Saffron ink pad to make the wheel along the bottom. You can do this with any ink. Just remember your cardstock that you're wheeling on MUST be shorter than the wheel itself, otherwise you'll run out of ink and be left with an uneven stamped image!

 

Wanna Play? Challenge #3 Cards

 

This is Kanaan's CASE from page 109 in the IBC for this week's challenge. I love how she put the leaves falling on the right of the card to take up some of the open space due to the basket and pumpkin being smaller than the leaves on the original card. Great color combo, K; it's VERY autumn!

Here's Raina's CASE from page 104. She made a small gift card (probably a 3X3) into a regular sized card. I think that the scallop circle punch does an amazing job of highlighting the flower. Raina loves the DSP (I think it's Recollections?) that retired a while ago and the Cranberry Crisp paper.

This is my CASE from page 141. I substuted Upsy Daisy for the potted flowers and used Urban Garden DSP. I tried the Rock N' Roll technique with Baja Blue and Pink Pirouette, but I don't really love it. Possibly, because I used Glossy Paper instead of Whisper White. Oh, well, I can't love everything I make, right?

I apologize for my inactivity the past week...I was on vacation and truly checked out on vacation for a while. Well, the best you can with a toddler. But, that meant that I didn't get a chance to check in here and post the challenges I'd received or a new challenge for this week.

Tomorrow during Jackson's nap, I will get everything updated, including all of last week's submissions for the CASE challenge.

Wanna Play? Challenge #3

Basically, we crafters are a sharing bunch. We like to look at magazines, catalogs, websites, blogs...to gain inspiration for layouts, color combinations, techniques, etc. The list goes on and on. Often, many crafters feel honored that others like their creations so much that they want to make one just like it or use some part of it.

In the stamping/scrapping world, there's an acronym that floats around...CASE. In a previous post, I wrote "I totally CASE'd that card from..." CASE stands for Copy And Share Everything. I've also seen it described as Copy and Steal Everything and tons of other definitions.

For this week's Wanna Play Challenge, I would like for you to find a creation in the Fall/Winter 2008 Idea Book & Catalog(AKA: Stampin' Up!'s current catalog) and CASE it!

You can "borrow" (er, "copy," "steal"...) any idea from one project, but you must reference it in your submission. For instance, you would send me your submission and tell me "I CASE'd this card's layout from page 98" or "I CASE'd the color combination from the scrapbook page on page 51". That way, we can all take a peek at where you drew your inspiration from.

Finally, if you don't have your own copy of the IBC, you can take a peek at the online version of it (with different samples) at my business website: www.saraystamps.stampinup.netand click on "Shop Now" to see the catalog. If you'd like your own copy of the IBC, leave me a comment or shoot me an email letting me know where to ship it to!

Happy Halloween!

  I've gathered up some pictures for Halloween. Some of them are from last year's regionals, so you may see stamp sets used that are no longer available. But, the color combinations, ideas, and spookiness are always reusable!

 This little monster I made today. I used the Large Star Punch for his hair (backed with Whisper White cardstock), 1 3/8" Circle punch for the whites of his eyes, the 3/4" Circle Punch for the insides of his eyes, the Word Window for his mouth, and the Spiral punch for the top of his shirt.

Great fun and no stamping! Imagine that.

 

Some of you may have seen this little guy before. I made this card for Halloween last year and sent it out. The mummy is made with strips of Whisper White cardstock, 1 3/8" Circle Punch, 1 1/4" Circle Punch, 3/4" Circle Punch, and the corner rounder punch for his tongue. Totally CASE'd the idea from a card I saw at regionals.

Again, not a simple stamp. Yikes! It's spooky!

 

 

I didn't make the ones from Regionals, but I thought they'd be fun to share with you. Please note, I don't know who the original person who made these cards is, but if I did, I would give her credit appropriately.

Wanna Play? Challenge #2 Cards

  

This is Raina's submission for this week's challenge. She used"Doodle This" (current IBC page 92) for the flower and doodles under the flower. She also used Sincere Salutations for the sentiment, "Best Wishes", which can be found on page 140.

This is my card I created using Sock Monkey (page 51) and Family Phrases (pg 79). I used Old Olive, Baja Blossom, Pink Pirouette, and watercolor cardstock. You can't totally see it here, but the monkey is popped up with Stampin' Dimensionals.

This is Kanaan's submission for this week's challenge. She used Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Chip, and Old Olive cardstock and a dry embossing stencil for the spider web.

She included a picture of the inside of the card that finishes the sentiment "Witching you a haunting Halloween". 

Very cute, Kanaan! I love your coloring of the kettle and stars. The web is a really neat touch and I love the reverse of the web on the inside of the card.

Upsy Daisy

     

I LOVE my new Upsy Daisy set! I've been using it like crazy...

Here's a sample I made for my friend, Suni, who's engaged and trying to plan to make her Save the Date cards.

This card uses Bravo Burgundy, Mellow Moss, Very Vanilla, and (ret.) Chocolate Chip ribbon.

 

This one I made for my friend, Megan, for her birthday. I used Whisper White, Riding Hood Red, and Pink Pirouette cardstock, Riding Hood Red and Pink Pirouette ink, and linen thread.

I LOVE the monochromaticness (is that a word?) of this card. I CASE'd the layout from my Stampin' Success Magazine and looked at my Color Wheel to see what the monochromatic combination for Bashful Blue was. Turns out, it was Not Quite Navy. I used Designer Series Paper for the bottom, layered it with a strip of NQN cardstock (ribbon would look darling as well) and stamped in both Bashful Blue and Not Quite Navy to even out the colors. Fun!
